Recent decisions of the Chamber Board of Directors has resulted in the shift from their highly visited website managed by AWS CREATIVE SOLUTIONS LLC in Dallas to a very disappointing site managed by PRONETCORP and PLANETCHAMBER.com What does this change appear to mean to business members?

Posted on: 2009-05-25 06:31:40 [ Print | 0 Comment(s) ]
As you read today’s issue you will find the stories of a number of deceased soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who served in World War II. We have by no means included all of them. In doing this research, we were proud to learn how many of our local folks had won significant awards during the war.

In the fall of 1944, Adolph Hitler had come to realize that desperate times call for desperate measures. The Allied armies of the United States and Britain were pressing toward the western border of Germany and the Soviet Army was nearing the German frontier from the east.

The History of Memorial Day
Posted on: 2009-05-25 06:09:21 [ Print | 0 Comment(s) ]
Memorial Day is a day set aside to honor those who have died in our nation’s service. In this issue we extend that honor to all of our deceased veterans who have served this county in time of war. In writing stories about our community’s servicemen, we focused on World War II, although we have stories about deceased veterans from other wars as well. Collecting the information to put together the military history of these heroes was an educational and emotional experience, as we had to locate widows, brothers and sisters, cousins, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors to find pictures, old newspaper clippings, military records, citations, stories in books, magazines, and the like. Most of those we write about today served our county over sixty years ago.

STOP ANTI-JESUS JUDGE DAVID HAMILTON!

URGENT HOT PETITION! Please click, sign, and WE WILL FAX your petition automatically to ALL 100 U.S. SENATORS right away (saving you hours of labor)!

Breaking News Update:

Heroic Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) just vowed to filibuster federal Judge David Hamilton, the bad judge who issued controversial rulings (banning public prayers offered "in Jesus name," and hastening the abortion of unborn children). Sen. Inhofe agrees we should stop Hamilton's nomination to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, the same court that reversed his liberal, activist, aggressive decisions for many years.

"Two men: one white, one black. One brutally murdered while standing at the gate to his homestead, the other kidnapped, beaten and burned by hot tar while being covered with feathers." This headline and first paragraph quote was taken from Sunday's April 19, 2009 front page of the Marshall News Messenger, a Cox owned newspaper. At first glance it appears to be current, relevant news. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I wish to express my total displeasure with certain members of the Board and the superintendent as they sanctioned Mrs. Charles Wilson in Monday night’s Board meeting. Mrs. Wilson has faithfully served on the Board for eighteen years. I must point out that she is the only master trustee on the Board. Simply because Mrs. Wilson has chosen to speak out against the atrocities that have taken place in MISD, she is now being harassed and humiliated in a public manner in still yet another attempt to keep her quiet.

What to Pray for a New President

Seeking God's blessing for a pluralistic, conflicted, and divided nation.
Mark Labberton | posted 1/16/2009

There is no better time to renew our commitment to pray for our leaders than the start of a new presidential administration. Barack Obama needs our prayers and we should give them freely and eagerly no matter how we may have voted.

I know our president needs prayer, because I know I do. My own life and pastoral leadership depends on prayer. I am aware that much of the blessing in the life of our church unfolds because of the prayers of people united in seeking God's way. Blessings are not earned by prayer, nor should blessings be presumed because of prayer. But I do believe prayer increases our readiness to live humbly, wisely, and courageously.

Editor's note: Orson Scott Card is a Democrat and a newspaper columnist, and in this opinion piece he takes on both while lamenting the current state of journalism.

An open letter to the local daily paper — almost every local daily paper in America:

I remember reading All the President's Men and thinking: That's journalism. You do what it takes to get the truth and you lay it before the public, because the public has a right to know.

This housing crisis didn't come out of nowhere. It was not a vague emanation of the evil Bush administration.

HOW MUCH TIME BEFORE A NEW WAR IN THE EPICENTER?
Posted on: 2008-10-27 11:16:02 [ Print | 0 Comment(s) ]
By Joel C. Rosenberg

(Washington, D.C., October 21, 2008) -- How much time do we have before war between Iran and Israel breaks out? Could it happen between the U.S. elections on November 4th and the inauguration on January 20th? A number of top U.S. and Israeli officials and analysts fear the answer could be yes.

Last month, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad again vowed to wipe Israel and "these germs of corruption off the face of the Earth." Israeli officials believe time is running out before Iran gets the Bomb. What's more, they know full well that President Bush - widely considered the most pro-Israel commander-in-chief in U.S. history - is leaving office very soon. One question, then, is whether Israel might launch a pre-emptive war against Iran's nuclear weapons program before a new American President steps in.

Gov. Perry: Texas Needs To Lead The Charge On Energy Independence

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today told energy experts that as a matter of foreign and economic policy, the nation must reduce its dependence on foreign oil by building a deeper, more diverse energy portfolio.

“America’s national security and economic stability are seriously threatened by the fact that we rely on other nations for 70 percent of our oil supply.” Perry told the Clean Carbon Policy Summit and Project Expo, hosted by the Clean Coal Technology Foundation of Texas.

Sir:

I am appalled that Kevin Yandell has chosen to leave MISD after more than a decade of respectable service to our district. I heard rumors that once again unrest at the top and threats from top administrators resulted in his leaving. Mr. Yandell is the final one of the old guard to, pardon the expression, "bite the dust". When are the Board and the community going to realize what Franklin and his regime have done to our district?

Recent Attacks in Iraq: Al-Qaeda in Iraq or Special Groups?
Posted on: 2008-10-09 10:01:07 [ Print | 0 Comment(s) ]
October 6, 2008
by Claire Russo and Marisa Cochrane

Over the last month there has been an increase in coordinated, well-planned attacks. While Coalition Forces are still investigating the perpetrators of these attacks, others have been quick to credit al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI). Although AQI is still present in Iraq, their networks have been largely disrupted by aggressive operations by Coalition Forces and Sons of Iraq (SoI). Since June 2007, the number of AQI attacks has decreased by eighty percent.1 Their recent activity has been limited to the use of female suicide bombers on soft targets. It is unlikely that AQI has regenerated its forces and capabilities in such a short period of time.

Dear Sir:

Are you aware that MISD is having a Texas Education monitor placed in the district, beginning September 16, 2008? As I understand, MISD was given one year to comply with specific mandates in special education, and because those mandates were not met, the district is under the scrutiny of a state-appointed official who has the authority to remove state and federal funding if corrections are not made in the near future. This is serious business, and the first time that such an incident has ever occurred in MISD’s history. How are Franklin and McMinn going to cover up this story? As I understand, the Board was not even made aware of the failure to comply until the last Board meeting, and then Franklin used some excuse that he thought the problems had been corrected. This is inexcusable.

PALIN: An answer to prayer
Posted on: 2008-09-06 13:56:59 [ Print | 0 Comment(s) ]

Sarah Palin is an answer to prayer.

Prior to her speech to the RNC on Wednesday, Americans were confused and defused. People and the media were blindly applauding the most extreme leftist, socialists, Marxist ideas of Obama and Bidon. His appearance descending from the clouds between fake Roman pillars had many people wondering about the upcoming election. But when Sara Palin stood tall on that stage and spoke directly to the American people, they were enthused, electrified and excited like nothing seen in the past decade.

Chatting with Obama

Like him or not, you have to give Barack Obama credit for waging a smart, focused campaign. Destroying the Clinton machine was a major achievement, and so was putting together a successful convention in Denver. Obama is now firmly a part of U.S. history no matter what happens in the presidential election.

The problem some Americans continue to have with the senator is that he is long on charisma, but short on detail. This frightens some voters. Who the heck is this guy, anyway? So, when Obama finally agreed to speak to me this week, specifics were on my mind.

Report From a Forgotten War (5th and Last in a Series)

KABUL, Afghanistan -- It is good to be heading home, where there are paved roads, no Russian landmines, and the man standing at the next intersection isn't going to blow himself to pieces trying to kill me, my family and my friends. At home, drinkable water comes out of a faucet, not just from a plastic bottle. Home is where meals come on plates -- not in brown plastic bags -- and we have air conditioning and fresh green vegetables and showers last as long as we want. At home, we go to work in coats and ties instead of body armor and helmets. At home, our vehicles don't have turrets, and if we drive after dark, we use headlights instead of night-vision goggles. At home, "overhead cover" is protection from the elements, not a defense from enemy rocket or mortar fire.

Some Empirically Proven Value in School Choice

by Paul Weyrich

One of the arguments which opponents of school choice always make is that it would adversely affect the public school system. Opponents claim that the alternative schools would siphon off the best students, leaving those who remain who are the least able and the poorest and most disadvantaged students. Just as all of the rest of the arguments which opponents have made have proven false, so also has this argument.

The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice and several other Ohio and national organizations have conducted a study of the public schools which have been affected by Ohio's Educational Choice Scholarship program. It turns out that the threat of competition and losing students is causing these public schools to improve their academic outcomes.

"Bloom where you're planted."

Thursday, September 04, 2008
by Rebecca Hagelin

I don't know who said it first, but I'll never forget who said it first to me: my mother. It was an admonishment to look around me at the opportunities and needs within my grasp - and to embrace them. Her message was clear: If you bloom where you are planted, beautiful, unexpected things can happen.

This is the story of Governor Sarah Palin. What makes her absolutely appealing to ordinary citizens across the country - both young and old - is that she didn't go looking for greatness somewhere "out there" - instead, she sought to make a difference in the lives of the people in her path - and in so doing, greatness found her.
