My friend, Connie, was told she had breast cancer. When she called her children and grandchildren together to tell them and ask for their prayers, one of her granddaughters said, “Don’t worry Grandma. I’ll worry for you. You know my class at school will pray for you, and God answers our prayers.”

My friend, Bill Brown, had a heart attack. His grandson sent him a letter that said, “I’m very sorry you had a heart attack. Please don’t die, otherwise I’ll be very upset, and I will be thinking of you at all times, and for the rest of my life. If you die, I’ll see you in 90 years or earlier.”

It was a gorgeous early spring day, the roses were coming into first bloom, and in the rock garden my daughter and I had planted the year before, all the flowers were waving their blooms. I was sipping a cup of tea and enjoying the serenity and beauty of the scene. Serene? Not for long.

When you hold a tiny seed of grain, or a flower seed, in your hand, there isn’t much to see, is there? But drop it into the earth; wait and watch a few days. Soon there is a small green sprout pushing its way up through the soil, first the blade, then in time the ear or the beginning of a lovely flower, and then a full ear of corn or the beautiful flower. All of that was in that one tiny grain or seed, though you could not see it. But that isn’t all. Husk that ear, take out all the grains, put them back into the ground, and watch and wait some more.

If we had been in that crowd on the day Jesus came into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, and we heard a voice from heaven, I wonder how we would have reacted. Why did God in heaven break silence?

    By Ellen Blackwell

A subject that appears chain-like through the Bible is worth looking into. Consequently, we will consider the subject of thorns. The first reference is in Genesis 3:17,18, “And unto Adam he said. . .Cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread.”
