The Question of Life

By Charles Moore
First Baptist Church in Jefferson
Luke 9:20--And He said to them, But who do you say that I am? and Peter answered and said, The Christ of God.
It sometimes seems that questions are the scourge of life. We must answer questions that range from age, to race, to gender, to residence, to occupation, to political preference, to education, but only one questions answer has eternal consequence for man.

One of lifes little pleasures is a cherry-limeade, and growing up in Grand Prairie, Texas during the 1960s there was only one place to get your first taste of the very bestBobs Burger and Shake. I would stand at the window, pre-drive-thru days, and watch them slice and squeeze a huge lime into the bottom and then push down that cherry syrup pump five times, finishing it off with sparkling Seven-Up. The first draw on the straw shocked the senses with that burst of cherry sweetness. Nothing compared with it.

In the Bible, God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”(Genesis 1:26)

Pastor, Waskom First United Methodist Church
“Never doubt in the dark what God has told you in the light.” I saw these words written somewhere the other day and began to reflect on their meaning. I was reminded of the disciple Thomas. But, what about Thomas? Most everyone remembers Thomas as the “doubter”. Many times he is called “Doubting Thomas,” and that same name is applied to many people in today’s world when they refuse to believe what they are being told.

By Pastor Charles Moore
First Baptist Church, Jefferson
Romans 8:14--“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Today we must ask these questions: “Am I a child of God?” “How do I know that I am His child?” God’s Word, His blueprint for living, tells us that we can know for sure if we are truly His child.

Oak Grove Baptist Church, Harleton
While I was in seminary I served as the pastor of Mount Carmel Baptist Church located on FM 121, seven miles east of Tioga, Texas. Don’t know where Tioga is? Tioga is famous for being the birthplace of the late singing cowboy, Gene Autry. By the way, one can hear Gene sing each day on KMHT’s Swap Shop.

The Bible is both the best loved and most hated book on planet earth. In A.D. 303, the Roman Emperor Diocletian issued an edict to destroy Christians and their Bibles. The persecution that followed was brutal. Over a burned and extinguished Bible, Diocletian built a monument on which he wrote these triumphant words: “Extincto nomene Christianorum” (the name Christian is extinguished). Diocletian fashioned a medal with the engraving, “The Christian religion is destroyed and the worship of the gods restored.”

The Choices We Choose

By Fr. John M. Himes, OSF
Trinity Episcopal Church
We find ourselves well into Lent. A time Christians have traditionally used for self- examination and repentance. Perhaps during Lent we become more conscious of the decisions we make than at other times of the year. Jeremiah wrote, Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ (Jer 6:16)
